It’s Time For 10
The best things in life are free or so the saying goes, and with the new Windows 10 update just around the corner it’s time to take a closer look at just what upgrading can achieve.
First things first, it’s free…but not without a catch. For individual users Windows 10 will be available free of charge for the first year of release. That is great news for those of you who don’t rely on a Server. For larger business however Windows 10 will come at a cost, and that’s not to mention the Microsoft Office 2016 update that comes at a further fee.
So what’s new? For starters a pleasant surprise for anyone who uses Windows 8 is the return of the start menu. Perhaps not the most vital change but one of the most welcome, allowing you the option to choose between a simple start menu bar or new “Live Tiles” feature.
First seen on the Windows phone, Cortana (Windows answer to Siri) will now be available across all Windows 10 platforms, it will act as your digital assistant and can be programmed to adapt to your needs and style of working, saving you time from sorting through the Search Bar to find what you want.
Internet Explorer has officially been revamped and renamed. Internet Explorer is still available but Edge will be the new default browser and feature a new “reading mode” and the ability to annotate on pages. Cortana also comes into play with Edge, providing help from finding pages to even making dinner reservations!
Updating any software can often come with problems. We are completing compatibility testing to tell is all Windows 7/8 applications and other tools will run smoothly without the purchase of new drivers and new hardware.
We are expecting there may be a few teething issues and it would be wise to hold out a little longer before fully moving to Window 10, but thus far feedback has been extremely positive. We hope you’re as excited as we are!
