Apple Event 2020: what’s new

The highly anticipated Apple event took place on 15th September. There was no mention of a new handset, but it’s believed that this will be unveiled in the next few weeks.

Here’s what you need to know…

Apple Watch Series 6

The undeniable star of the show was the new Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE, both with a huge emphasis on health and wellbeing.

Starts at $399 (sterling equivalent unknown at time of publishing)
30% larger face than previous models
New S6 chip processor, which is 20% faster than the Series 5’s chip
watchOS 7 includes Family Setup, sleep tracking, automatic handwashing detection, new workout types, and the ability to curate and share watch faces
Sensor to track blood oxygen saturation (which helps track breathing and heart rate in more detail)
Fall detection
Accelerometer, gyroscope, and always-on altimeter
An always-on display that’s 2.5 times brighter than the Series 5
New wrist bands, including the ‘Solo Loop’ (expands to slip over your hand and onto your wrist without needing a clasp)

Apple Watch SE

A more budget-friendly offering at $279 (sterling equivalent unknown at time of publishing)
Features the same accelerometer, gyroscope, and always-on altimeter as Apple Watch Series 6
Includes the new Solo Loop and Braided Solo Loop bands
